The core arts initiative supports programs that are developed with and within the juvenile justice system. Detention centres, adolescent offender programs, alternative schools, holding facilities and community-based, after school and summer programs are all settings for Core Arts programs. Each program uses the arts as a tool to decrease incidences of violence, decrease recidivism, increase school attendance and provide positive experiences with adult mentors.

Many instruments have been donated to Core Arts, your donations to Surrey Strings will be put into working order for the individuals to learn on and enjoy.

AIS (Acute Intervention Service)

The Acute Intervention Service which is part of the Adult Mental Health Directorate is expanding therapeutic music input for their clients. They believe music therapy to be exteremly beneficial to, and a great contributor to the recovery of their Mental Health Service users. They are looking for donations of basic percussion, drums and a keyboard.
